Cultural Resources Surveys and Coordination

Cultural resource reviews and surveys are required under the National Historic Preservation Action of 1966 (NHPA). More specifically, Section 106 of the NHPA requires that every federal agency or action demonstrate compliance with the NHPA. As a result, any Federal permitting action or funding requires that Section 106 of the NHPA is complied with. The Headwaters staff has years of experience in coordinating the Section 106 compliance in conjunction with the Federal permitting activities.

Headwaters utilizes our partner firms throughout the southeast relative to completing large cultural resources survey projects. Our staff coordinates all aspects of the NHPA compliance including the cultural resources reviews for Federal actions and conducting Phase I and II Cultural Resources Surveys, including the coordination with the individual State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPO) across the southern United States. The specific cultural resources surveys offered by Headwaters include:

  • Cultural Resources Reviews for Federal Permit Actions
  • Phase I Cultural Resources Surveys
  • Phase II Cultural Resources Surveys
  • Phase III Cultural Resources Recovery Projects
